Protecting trees during development

We offer several tree consultation services, but we focus on planning and development in relation to trees.

We assess what trees may be affected during development and provide advice on which to remove and which to keep and finally, how to protect those. The phases are as described below:

Initial site survey prior to the planning phase

  • Survey and report with a tree constraints plan (created prior to any new design on the site). This will help identify trees to be retained based upon their condition, visual amenity and estimated life expectancy. The survey will also provide information on how the retained trees could affect design (conforming to the guidance stated in BS:5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – recommendations).

Planning Phase:

  • An arboricultural impact assessment (AIA) is put together (based on feedback by the planners) to aid in the design and location of future development by identifying impacts to the trees chosen to be retained, based on proposed structures.

Construction Phase

  • A tree protection plan and arboricultural method statement details procedures to follow during the construction, with a visual plan for certain details. A draft of this would be circulated once the above two are finalized. A dialogue is to follow to make sure decisions are workable. Once an agreement is reached by all parties involved, a final version can be made.
